The second season of Full Contact is set to premiere soon, but there are rising concerns that a third season may not be approved. The first season, filmed in 2023, encountered challenges due to restricted access, whereas the forthcoming season is anticipated to provide a much more in-depth exploration of the topic. Nevertheless, reports suggest that Netflix is hesitant to approve a third season unless there is a notable change in its approach or strategy.

This reluctance from Netflix coincides with the company's increasing emphasis on live sports events. Their ventures into live streaming have achieved remarkable success, highlighted by events such as Jake Paul's boxing match against Mike Tyson in November, which attracted a peak audience of 65 million viewers globally. Furthermore, the NFL's Christmas Day double-header set a record with 61 million viewers, and Netflix has also acquired rights to broadcast Monday Night Raw wrestling and the Women's World Cup in 2027 and 2031.

Brandon Riegg, Netflix's vice president, expressed his excitement about the success of these live sports initiatives, citing the surprising viewership figures and the engaging nature of single-event broadcasts like the NFL's holiday games. Riegg emphasized the distinction between sports broadcasting and Netflix's scripted programming, noting that, unlike sports agreements, shows such as Black Doves will remain accessible on the platform indefinitely. As Netflix continues to pivot towards live, event-driven sports, it appears unlikely that they will prioritize scripted sports documentaries like Full Contact unless there is a significant increase in demand or audience growth to warrant such a decision.
