Srinivasa Reddy Kandi: Europe and Israel Gain Ground in the Global AI App Race

Europe and Israel Gain Ground in the Global AI App Race:

While the U.S. continues to dominate the development of large foundational AI models, the landscape looks different when it comes to AI applications. Europe and Israel are quickly emerging as strong contenders, producing standout companies such as Lovable, known for its “vibe-coding” approach, and Synthesia, a leader in AI-powered enterprise video creation.

These insights come from Accel’s 2025 Globalscape Report, which analyzes global trends across the AI and cloud ecosystem. Notably, Accel is an investor in both Lovable and Synthesia, giving the firm a front-row seat to the region’s evolution.

According to the report, European and Israeli AI and cloud startups have raised 66 cents for every dollar raised by U.S. counterparts in 2025 — a dramatic improvement from a decade ago. “When we started this report 10 years ago, Europe was just one-tenth the size of the U.S.,” says Accel partner Philippe Botteri. He attributes the rapid growth to the development of a mature ecosystem of founders and investors who understand how to scale world-class software companies.

This shift also highlights a broader trend: European and Israeli innovators are no longer just talent pools for Big Tech’s AI labs. As Headline general partner Jonathan Userovici notes, founders across industries — from healthcare and legal to manufacturing and marketing — are now blending cutting-edge technical expertise with deep domain knowledge to build competitive AI-driven applications.
