Srinivasa Reddy Kandi: Pocket Casts Introduces Playlists to Personalize Your Podcast Listening

Pocket Casts Introduces Playlists to Personalize Your Podcast Listening:

Pocket Casts — the podcast app owned by Automattic, the parent company of Tumblr — has launched a new feature that lets users create personalized playlists of their favorite podcast episodes. Whether you prefer to handpick episodes yourself or let the app do the organizing, playlists now make it easier than ever to tailor your listening experience.

With 60,000 subscribers compared to Spotify’s 281 million, Pocket Casts is aiming to stand out by offering more customization and control. Playlists help listeners build collections around themes, topics, or even specific guests across multiple shows. They’re also perfect for preparing a queue before a long flight or commute.

Creating a manual playlist is simple:
Go to the Playlists tab on the main screen, tap the “+” icon on mobile (or “New playlist” on the web), and choose the episodes you want to include.
For a more hands-off experience, Smart Playlists use custom rules to automatically gather episodes based on your preferences. You can filter by length, unplayed status, downloaded episodes, and more — ideal for busy listeners who want a curated list with minimal effort. The Playlist feature is currently live on the web and desktop apps. The Android rollout has begun, and iOS support is coming soon.
This update follows Pocket Casts’ recent move to make its web player free, strengthening its position as a flexible, user-friendly alternative to podcast platforms that lock features behind paywalls.
